Heal! Veterans and Their Service Dogs

“I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I have recurring dreams. I wake up and can’t go back to sleep. My sleep has been interrupted for a very long time. And so back to the alcohol, that was a way to stay asleep longer because I would drink so much that I would almost pass out. But the double-edged sword is that when you drink you have more dreams. So, I was trying to fix one problem but I was making the other worse.

“With Selah, she sleeps in bed with me. She’ll wake me up when I start tossing and turning. She’ll get me out of whatever dream I’m in. She snuggles. The other night she slept upside down, laid against my chest with her head right on my neck the entire night and didn’t move. I sleep much better, knowing she’s there. I can relax.”
